Capturing Impressions with Color and Light
By Tiffanie Mang
San Diego
Often times when painting outside, we do not have a lot of time to record every detail because as Monet once stated, 'We truly only have 20 minutes before the light changes'. In this workshop, plein air gouache artist Tiffanie Mang will demonstrate how to capture the essence of a landscape with energy and emotion. This workshop will focus heavily on the importance of composition before color through small value studies. In the second half of the class, students will dive into the basics of color mixing and color relationships, which is what makes a painting come alive after good value structure and composition. Through this workshop, students will learn to not record literally what they see in front of them, but to capture the soul of the subject matter in their own way on canvas.
