Jennifer McChristian was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec and now resides in Southern California. She enjoys painting plein airs of both rural landscapes and urban cityscapes and teaches local and international workshops in plein air painting.
McChristian has established herself as one of the foremost artists in the contemporary impressionist movement. With a solid foundation in the traditional craftsmanship of the early Impressionists she loves to explore modern everyday scenes using a classic limited color palette on a textured canvas board. Her subject matter ranges as far as her travels, including scenes of beautiful Caribbean islands, medieval European cities and towns, stunning South African safaris, small Chinese village markets and big American cities. Wherever the destination she will manage to find that one overlooked view that, when put on canvas, becomes the distillation of the essence of that place. She collects these little moments together and creates an epic poem to the singular humanity which lies beneath the surface of perceived differences.
Jennifer is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) and a Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society (AIS).
McChristian currently resides in Glendale, CA with her husband Ben Fried and two magically inclined cats named Sesame and Cinnamon.
